We are here to assist you in meeting your goals and to provide you with the best education possible!

McFarland Unified School District first established an Independent Study Program in the fall of 1980 as an alternative means of education for youth 14 years or older seeking a high school education. Learning through Independent Study is based on a one-to-one relationship between students and staff members. It is also an important and rewarding learning arrangement for students who may have dropped out of school a number of years earlier and now wish to return to school. MIS allows for flexible scheduling of student work and school time. Approximately 15% of the student's time is spent working directly with the instructor and the remaining 85% of the time is spent working on independent assignments at home, in the field, or on the job.
